Black Panther Wins Big at SAG Awards - The Color Brief January 28
All eyes were on Black Panther last night at the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The film’s cast took home the night’s top prize, for best ensemble in a film. The blockbuster film was up against diverse competition from the likes of BlacKkKlansman and Crazy Rich Asians.
Mahershala Ali repeated his Golden Globe win, taking home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in Green Book. Ali is a favorite to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar next month.
Sandra Oh was also among the night’s big winners, repeating her Globe win for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her work on Killing Eve.
The SAG Awards are often seen as a major indicator of the films and actors who will win big at the Oscars. So, expect to see a lot of these faces again Feb. 24.
In other award news…
The GLAAD Media Award nominees were announced on Friday. Dear White People, Pose, and RuPaul’s Drag Racewere recognized in the TV categories, while Janelle Monáe and Brockhampton received nods for their 2018 albums. View the full list of nominations at glaad.org.
Also over the weekend, Cardi B made history as the first woman to perform at the Adult Video News Awards in Las Vegas. She offered a racy take on her songs “Bickenhead” and “She Bad”.
