Actor and director Idris Elba is headed to Saturday Night Live’s mainstage. He’ll make his debut as host on the March 9 episode. Khalid will be the musical guest.
His hosting stint was announced via SNL’s official Twitter account on Wednesday.
Elba is currently PEOPLE magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, and he has a busy year ahead of him. His directorial debut, Yardie, will be released on March 15, the same day his Netflix series Turn Up Charlie hits the streaming service.
He also has a slew of other appearances lined up, including a DJ set at this year’s Coachella Festival, a part in the forthcoming Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, a role in the film adaptation of Cats, and another season of the hit BBC series Luther.
He’ll have no shortage of projects to promote during his opening monologue.

New York Times critic Mick Herron writes, “For a debut novel it’s remarkably assured, earning its genre stripes with panache, and addressing thought-provoking issues along the way.” American Spy is in bookstores now.
