The New Basics

It may be hard to start thinking about Spring right now with frigid temps lingering and pending snowfall in the forecast.  But before you know it, it'll be time to shed our winter layers and make the transition back to lighter fabrics.  I'm looking forward to getting back to basics this Spring, but in a fresh, new way.

I remember using very basic, solid henleys as a quick go-to when I didn't know what else to wear.  I wasn't worried about fit, fabrication, or style.  I just viewed them as a small step above basic tees and knew they'd work with pretty much anything in my wardrobe.  Henleys still serve that purpose for me, but now all those factors that I previously overlooked matter.  Take the Henley shown here for instance.  The pop color and contrast stitching instantly set it apart.  And it's just as fitted as any sweater or tee in my closet.  It's a must-have to work into your looks as a basic, but the fit and color elevate it to a layering piece that could be used in a variety of looks from casual to dapper.  The next time you start reaching for a basic tee to complete your Spring look, take a moment to reconsider and throw on a new henley.
