A Summer Affair

I'm cheating on summer.  While I'm throwing on tanks and shorts, I'm dreaming of fall.  And the last couple days in NYC have been the ultimate tease.  You know those days: almost no humidity, a cool breeze, temps that never top 75.  The weather has been nothing short of amazing, and my mind is racing a mile a minute dreaming up outfit inspiration and combinations for September and beyond.

But lo and behold, there's still a few weeks of summer ahead of us.  So I channeled my inner skater boy for a casual and weather-appropriate look.  For me, summer can be tough for style because I'm often chasing comfort and searching for ways to avoid melting.  The key to this look is the cutoff short.  The frayed edges are a rugged touch, and the bright teal color is a strong reminder that this is still a summer look.  The shorts hit just above the knee and are perfect for wandering the streets of NY or for getting active.  Up top, I went with an oversized tank to combat the more tailored feel of the shorts.  And the sleeveless hoodie feeds my need to layer.  My "All Equal Before The Law" Converse are there just because-a fun way to top off a laid back look.

While I'm definitely stoked for fall, this is my favorite part of summer. The transition period has begun.  If you're ready to press fast forward on the heat like me, try to bring some of your fall style tips into summer.  Play with color, proportion, and light layers to give your late summer look just the right touch of autumn.  After all, there's room for both of the seasons in your life in August.
