5 Reasons Anwar Hadid's Modeling Contract Signals The Return of The Male Supermodel

Let's get one thing straight: the era of the supermodel as we knew it is over.  Gone are the days where Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Linda Evangelista could demand $10K before getting out of bed.  But that being said, there is a new generation of ridiculously famous models reclaiming the fashion throne.  Though the 90s heyday of extreme fashion celebrity may be a thing of the past, models like Gigi and Bella Hadid are household names with impressive amounts of social media followers and runway credits to boot.  Now, their 16-year-old brother is the last piece of the photogenic trifecta.  It was recently widely reported that Anwar Hadid signed a modeling contract with IMG Models.  And while female models will always rule the industry, Anwar's signing could mean the resurgence of the male supermodel.

1. The Hadid family is poised to be the next royal reality family.

Yolanda Hadid is a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills veteran who's never shied away from sharing her genetically blessed children with the world.  When you think of the Kardashian clan, a huge part of their success stems from their reality juggernaut, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.  With Anwar already a part of another uber-popular franchise, he has the type of exposure and familiarity that other male models would kill for.

2. He's already posed for L'uomo Vogue.

It's common practice for agencies to swarm in on promising teenage female models, but we often see male models reaching their peak of popularity and profitability a bit later in life.  At 16 years old, Anwar's signing could indicate that scouts are just as interested in young male talent.  And with a high profile feature in established men's magazine L'uomo Vogue, it seems he already has a fanbase and official co-sign.

3. He's also already a red carpet staple.

Whether it's the Victoria's Secret fashion show or the Global Lyme Alliance Gala, Anwar is no stranger to red carpets.  We rarely see such widely documented red carpet walks for male models.  But with this Hadid sibling, the tide seems to be turning.

4. His social media following is ridiculous.

Anwar boasts almost 500,000 Instagram followers and more than 37,000 Twitter followers. He has more influence than most male models.  Industry vet and widely published model Chad White only has 127K followers on IG. I know that's still pretty colossal to us regular folk, but you can see how, at 16, he's already eclipsing his more established peers.

5. He has some great mentors at his fingertips.

Bella and Gigi know a thing or two about how to succeed in the biz.  They've appeared together in a Balmain campaign and walked in numerous shows including Marc Jacobs, Moschino, and Topshop to name a few.  His sisters are two highly sought after and marketable models who I'm sure will have no problem sharing their secrets of success with their little brother.
